  1. Regarding alternative transportation: I thought it was fitting that today a new world record was set on a bicycle. Over 53 MPH in one hour.
Although I don't go quite as fast on my Rans V-Rex, I can attest that recumbents are fast.

More than once I've found I've been able to get around town faster by bike than by car.
Read about one such story and calculate your own true average speed at my new post:

    Calculate Your True MPH.
    The results my surprise you!

I also want to add that bikes can work surprisingly well for hauling-- last
week I pulled 80 pound load across town from Lowes. The speed was slower, but
the pedaling didn't need to be particularly hard. (On the other hand, the
folks at Pedal People look like they have to work a little bit...)

  2. A correction to an event announced in this episode: the Conflict Resolution Center's 10 year Jubilee is actually on July 22nd from 4-7 PM, NOT on July 29th as previously indicated. Sorry for the confusion.

  3. Local blogger E. Thomas Kemp has posted some notes on this episode in his entry, Local Coverage of the Energy Crisis, and has some related discussion happening there. Thanks for the link!
