Sudden departure of the P-I's ultimate news reviewer

The Palladium-Item released a brief and quiet note today that they've named an interim managing editor following the departure of Rich Jackson from the position. I noticed yesterday that he had been removed from their online staff directory, and Jackson's weblog, once a center of the paper's online efforts and an interesting archive of thoughts on how the paper does its work, is now gone without explanation. While I'm sure at one level this is a private matter between Rich and his (apparently former) employer, it's certainly a very significant change for this singular local news entity. Rich has been the very public face of the paper through a lot of discussion about policy and editorial decision making, and while many have not always agreed with him, I think most have come to appreciate his engagement with and concern for readers, critics and fans alike.

We'll follow this closely and hopefully have more for you in the next episode of the RNR.

  1. Should we thank the Richmond Sanitary District for removing him to a more suitable location?
